With the advent of free, public educational programs like the Khan Academy, the landscape of K‐12 education is shifting. In this report, Hanover Research discusses this and other trends that are likely to influence K‐12 education within the next several years. Some of these trends are already being implemented in classrooms, but may become even more widely used in the future. The report is divided into two sections. Section I: This section discusses upcoming trends in K‐12 education, and provides details about the implementation of these trends and the unique challenges presented by them. Section II: This section profiles two school districts—Vail School District and Oak Hills Local School District—that have implemented several of these trends in innovative ways.
